ALENA KUTUMIAN

FullSizeRender-4.jpg

Alena Kutumian is an Armenian American composer who's music procures inspiration from an array of influences and artists. Growing up in a musical family, she taught herself how to play guitar and piano, and also plays the clarinet and sings. Her musical background, as well as her love for musical theatre, led her to composing for concert, theatre, and film.

Her first piece she composed, “Little Soul: Oor Es Hokiges,” was performed by the Sidney Sussex College Choir in Cambridge directed by Dr. David Skinner in March of 2020. Other works have been performed by ensembles such as Duo Zonda, Brightwork New Music Ensemble, and Room to Spare.

Alena received her Bachelor's of Science in Neuroscience with a minor in Music at the University of California, Riverside where she studied composition under Dr. Dana Kaufman and Dr. Ian Dicke. She received the degree of Master of Music Theory and Composition: Screen Scoring at the New York University Steinhardt, where she studied under Eric V. Hachikian and Chris Hajian.

Alena's music can be heard in the United Nations short film for International Peace Day titled "Peace Begins With Me," as well as the documentary Children of Sin directed by Soukaina Alaoui El Hassani, Uptown directed by Harold Kahane, and Forgive Me Father by Dominick Parungao. Alena has also arranged as well as orchestrated music for various films including Martin My Boy by Harold Kahane and Flyboy by Dean E. Kobs.
